Bus Shelter Design Competition

In March of 2002 I employed FormZ software in a competition hosted by the Bloomington Community Arts commission in Indiana. The competition invited entrants to submit design proposals for bus shelters for their expanding public transport network. My personal challenge was to employ Form Z throughout the design process. By documenting this, I have been able to illustrate the role that drawings and physical modelsplay in conjunction with such a sophisticated presentation tool.

This project was an open invitation to designers, artists and architects. Such an inclusive strategy offerd great diversity of approaches and the aesthetic, spatial and structural demands of our work was inspired by many non architectural sources.

W orking on the Environmental Design class at City Arts at this time, I was also deeply inspired by the "non architectural approaches" of the children. Ther work continues to encourage me to look for beyond the boundaries of my own discipline and I hope that the collaborative nature of this competition may inspire others in the future.
